Stop the Meditation Overwhelm

Meditation can be joyful!

Meditation can feel overwhelming sometimes especially if it’s new to you. But there are some tips that can help make it a bit easier!

  1. Thoughts are normal - Thoughts popping up during meditation is normal, just don’t get stuck on them. Allow any thoughts to float away without dwelling on them. Some find it helpful to picture a bubble around the thought and having it float away.

  2. Count Your Breaths - Breathe in 1, breathe out 1; breathe in 2, breathe out 2…keep going until you get to 10 and start again at 1. This can help calm your mind and help reducing intruding thoughts.

  3. Guided Meditations - Sometimes listening to a guided meditation can feel a bit easier. It gives your mind something to follow along with. There are guided meditations for many different themes. (I have a couple on my YouTube Channel. One for getting to know your crystals and also one for grounding.)

  4. Be comfortable…but not too comfortable - You don’t need to sit in full lotus position to meditate. Find a position that works for you and your body. Lying down might not be the best position though if you find yourself getting sleepy lol.

  5. Start small - If meditation is new for you or has been difficult for you in the past, you don’t need to try to start meditating for an hour. That would probably be frustrating and counterproductive. Start small…2 minutes if you’re brand new. For most, long spans of time is difficult and it’s easier to start short and build up over time. Some meditation is better than no meditation and you can’t “build your meditation muscle” without starting somewhere.

Meditation has many wonderful benefits (find out 5 big ones here) but it can feel overwhelming when you just start out especially in modern times. But, if you start small and keep these tips in mind you’ll be blissfully meditating in no time!
